More stages

Multi-blast 

 To start with i applied a layer mask, to bring through another blast to combined them.

 The next step was to bring through another blast in the background

Next was to cut out one of the dummies

 I then resized him and add colour

Finally i change his perspective slightly to make his shadow cast in relation to the blast


Explorers 

The first thing i did was to cut out and add other flight path lines around the globe. I also added copies of explorer 1 to use as it siblings. these were cut out also. 

 Next thing i did was to remove a small box with information from beside explorer 1 on the left and fill the gap. i did this using the clone stamp tool. 

 Next i copied the explorer 1 writing and began to make labels for its siblings.

 I added numbers to the label to differentiate between the different explorers as their are five in total. The numbers are Roman numerals that i created by cutting and piecing together from the writing.

 Next i started to add titles next to the flight paths. i also added fire to explorer 5 and a big red cross on explore 2 to demonstate that these explorers failed.

 Finally I skewed the labels for the flight paths and added them to each line.

Korean war 

 To start with i began by cutting pieces of writing from the pages on the Korean war and arrange them on a image of american soldiers taken from the same book.

Next i applied a layer mask and warped the perspective of the written. one of the pieces of writing, i warped across the field.

 I did the same thing for another image except i include a map of Korea that shows the advancement line on 38th parallel.

 Next i added three words to a image of an american soldier.

Finally I pieced the images together and blurred the edges of the soldier at the centre.

Stages

Pop-culture coca cola 

Here are screen grabs of each stage of the image and the different ideas I went through.

 I coloured the dress red, which took quite some time to make sure I got the edges correct.

 After adding the Coca Cola symbol and Painting her dress red I decide to add the writing to the dress

I added the lady on the wall, which i took from old coke cola advert.

I changed my mind on the Coke cola symbol and placed it in perspective with the door also blurring it.

As I had planned  I added bottles to the picture, placing them in the window.

I didn't quite like the bottles in the window, so I placed them on the like a tag.

Another thing I added was the ribbon and wording from one of the old Coke adverts.

I removed the writing from the dress because it didn't fit.

Marilyn Life magazine 

 I started by colouring Marilyn skin and creating a multiply layer

 Next I added tone to the skin in area's that need to define features

 Next i coloured her dress, coloured her hair and her lips

 Next i added in the aliens on the life logo, which were drawn by hand and cleaned up in Photoshop.

Next i added the ship and the other aliens one below her and one near her shoulder

 Next i added colour to the aliens in the life logo and the one at the bottom

Finally i coloured the alien at her shoulder and the ship

Cival Rights 

 To start with i added martin luther king jr on the right by cutting him out.

 Next i cut martin and rosa out and stuck them on the left

 Still playing i tryed to add one of the mug shot images, but it didn't fit with the main image.

 Next i played with layer masks and decide that the image was to clustered

 I remove the other images and applied a layer mask, adding in protesters outside the bus window. These were the protesters that rallied to rosa's aid, also martin luther king jr is in the crowd to.

Finally i add the little rock seven outside the window behind Rosa, as I wanted to make reference to them also.

Woman bound by society 

 To with a drew the housewife, then imported into photoshop were i started to paint her.

 Once i had complete basic colouring i added tone to her skin and the ironing board.

The next thing was to draw the imaginations, which I then painted in Photoshop.

The next thing was to clone stamp the woman out of the background.

I then used a layer mask to bring the background image behind the drawing

Next i added in the imaginations and labelled them

The final thing was to blur top section of the background image and to add the edges to the dream bubble. i also added tone effect to the bubble.

Idea For What each image will contain

Civil Rights 
The image i'm going to create for this will feature Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, reference to the "The Little Rock Nine" and feature a taxi, with a bus. The taxi and bus will make reference to the boycott that took place as protest against Rosa Park been wrongly arrested.

How I'm going to add Rosa Parks I need to decide. I want to use the mug shot photo, but i want a image were she is strong or gets across who she is. There are a few ways I can go about this:

• I use a photo and edit it were Rosa is on a bus, which would make the most sense 
• I use the mug shot photo and another photo of here normally, edit both 
• Or I combined the bus photo and the mug shot together to get the point across 

How to Add Martin Luther King Jr, I want to use the mug shot photo again because i had the idea to replace the numbers their holding up with the dates of their arrest or other relevant ones.

I would also like to have a photo of him doing a speech standing tall. Again theirs a few ways i can do this:

• I can use the mug shot photo and A photo of him doing a speech
• I can ignore the mug shot and just have him at the centre of the image with speech photo
• Or i can ignore him and just focus on Rosa Parks 

But Martin Luther King Jr is more recognised person than Rosa parks and having him in the image might help the viewer to grasp better what the image is about. 

As for the The little Rock Nine reference I'm not quite sure how to add this to the images and if it would be noticed. A quick idea I've just had is if I use the mug shot photo's i could replace the numbers the they are holding up with the date of the little rock nine incident. 

As for the Taxi and the bus image i can ignore them or find an interesting way to incorporate them. I will decide when i make a mockup image of my idea, if their's too much going on in the image or not, and if to add which pieces and were.

Pop-Culture 

The image I'm going to create for this is going to contain two images of Marilyn Monroe placed next to one another. The Left Photo will be her on the cover of life magazine and the second will be her from her iconic scene from the film "The seven year itch". The left image will contain drawings that I will add to back ground of the cover of the magazine. These drawings will be things like the stereotypical aliens of that time, which the magazine cover actually makes reference to and other pop-culture pieces from that time. As for her iconic scene I need think more about it, but I'm thinking of changing the colour of her dress and adding the coca cola symbol, as well as finding a way of adding a bottle. The reason behind this is that coca cola was popular then and you had to iconic glass bottles back then.

Update (I decided to stick with just having aliens on the life magazine. As covering other pop culture cultured the image. the magazine only makes reference to aliens and there was obsession with them in 50's.)

Test Dummies

In the 50's a few nuclear test took place and would continue on in later years. I had an idea to use the dummies that they would use for testing. Where they would have a fake house with a fake family and would see the results of what would happen to house when the blast went of. This gave me an idea to have the family in the photo's to get colourized and I would add to the image a blast in the background that you can see out side the window. I need to make mock up's of this before I decide if I'm going use this idea.

Update (after making a mock-up of the idea decided to go a different direction. the reason is that it didn't get the point across and didn't look very good. I played around with trying to reconstruct the room in the image i used, but this didn't improve the image. I decide to use another magazine cover with a nuclear blast and incorporated other blasts. I also decided that I'll included one of the test dummies.)

War and Politics

I was thinking of creating an images that would make reference to the two wars that were going on in the 50's. The Korean war that last for up to three years or the beginning of the war against communism. 

Korean War

I was thinking of using old war photos of the soldiers in the Korean War from war books in my house and adding to them in some way. I was thinking of adding the maps and the images that would in some way make reference the 38th parallel, which was the dividing line between North and south which the conflict was about.  

The Red scare 

As for the communist reference I was thinking of creating an wanted poster that had no face and had the sign communism on it and the flag. This would make reference to the witch hunt that went on in american society were anybody that was believed to be siding with the communist was prosecuted. The american saw it as an attack against their way of the life "the american dream".  I wanted to capture this some how.

Update 

An idea would be to try and recreate some of the old leaflets that were given to the american public to warn them of the dangers of communism.

Women in the 50's

I'm going to have a photo or cartoon image of typical 50's looking housewife, but coming from her head theirs a large bubble. In this bubble I will draw her imagining been else were, having a career, socializing, doing things that goes against the grain of society for women back then. These dreams places will be done in a stylized way looking like a cartoon.

Again I'l have to create mock-ups, if the image doesn't come out like I want it can fall back on other ideas.

Update 
After looking at the image i wanted to use i decided that instead I would draw her and digitally paint the image. The reason behind this is that the image wasn't very clear and i wanted to have at least one image that had been hand drawn.

Technology 

After looking into this area of research I realised that the image I wanted was going to have to much going on. So I've decide I'll have to pick one piece of tech that came about. I was thinking the most interesting would be to focus on the first American satellite The explore 1 and its siblings. I could show the outcome of each sibling and the show the amount of time they orbited the earth. 

The other pieces I looked at wouldn't go to waste as I can use them as backup if the others images don't pan out. For example the new motorways, I had an idea to have a car from the time  in bright red coming down one of the new junction, marked with a road sign with number replaced with a date. 

Mock-up need to be done for these as well.
